An Amazing Arts Week!

Date: 22nd Jun 2017 @ 5:31pm

This week has been Arts Week and what a fantastic week it has been! Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the music, art, traditions, food and dance of Japan.

On Monday, the children took part in a kung-fu dance workshop where they had the opportunity to learn different moves and perform as a class. Year 6 also got to try their hand at some Japanese origami with Mrs Ryan as they made their own kimono bookmarks! In the afternoon, the children enjoyed making sushi with Mrs Hrabowenskyj and researched the work of Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, using his work as inspiration for their own artwork.

Later in the week, the children enjoyed learning about haiku poems- a traditional Japanese art form. We looked at different examples of these and identified the patterns used. The children worked in groups to create their own haiku poems and then wrote their own haiku based around either nature or one of the four seasons. Some of the children read their poems aloud in assembly.

On Friday, the children took part in a music workshop where they had the opportunity to play panpipes- it was tricker than it seemed, but everyone did really well.

It is fair to say that a wonderful week has been had by all. Photographs of the various activities have been posted to our ‘gallery’ page, so be sure to check them out.
