Reception News - 13th October

Date: 12th Oct 2017 @ 7:03pm

Hi everyone,

This week we read the story Funny Bones by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. In the story, dog skeleton crashes into a tree and falls to pieces. We wondered why that happened. We decided his bones mustn’t be strong and healthy. So we have been thinking of ways to keep ourselves healthy. We now know that we should eat healthy food, exercise, make sure we stay clean and get plenty of sleep. We hope dog skeleton follows our advice! We have been working super hard to label our healthy bodies like head, leg, foot, teeth.

In maths, we have been talking all about size. We had to help Miss Davies with a tricky problem…The skeleton family was all mixed up so we had to order them by size; from shortest to tallest. We tried really hard to describe their size using the words tallest and shortest.

It's Judaism week and we have been learning about the celebration, Hanukkah. We enjoyed some traditional Jewish party food at snack time - pancakes! Yum.

In our prayer times this week, we have been thinking about being thankful for everything we have. We said we are very lucky to have lots of healthy food to eat, a nice warm bed to sleep in and a bath to keep us clean. We thanked God by singing our end of the day prayer.

Thank you God for the world so sweet.

Thank you God for the food we eat.

Thank you God for the birds that sing.

Thank you God for everything.

Phonics

This week we looked at the sounds ck – it’s two letters together but they only make one sound, e – take off the top and scoop out the egg, u – down and up and draw the puddle and r – down the robot’s body and over his arm. Miss Davies set us another challenge. Can we practise our tricky words? Can we go on a tricky word hunt around the house? Our tricky words this week are to, said, get and got.

All about me collage

We are putting our ‘all about me’ collages into a big book to keep in our reading corner. We'll have fun talking about ourselves to our friends. (Just in case you’re wondering why they have disappeared from our home activity books).

Good News

This week we celebrated our friend's fantastic football achievement. He showed us his very impressive trophy. We heard about a Daddy who ran a marathon and won a medal. We heard all about a special birthday party and finally, we enjoyed looking at the calculater our friend brought in to show us. We had lots of questions about it.
