Reception News - 17th Novemeber

Date: 17th Nov 2017 @ 4:52pm

Hello again smiley

Well, it's been another exciting week! On Monday we found some crumbs and raisins on a baking tray. At first we thought the big bad wolf had eaten some of our snack! But after we read the Gingerbread Man, we decided that he had ran away from all the characters in the story who were trying to eat him and had come to hide in our school. So we set out to find him! We thought of lots of ways to find the Gingerbread Man. Alex and Freddi said we could build a trap, Lucas said we could look for clues and Caitlin said we could use a net to catch him! We eventually decided to make a missing poster to stick up all around our school.

We also asked Kate’s mummy, Officer Cassey to come in and help us find him. She told us all about the different jobs the police do and we had lots of questions for her. We enjoyed looking at her badge and trying on the different pieces of police uniform. We especially liked having our finger prints taken!

In our writing, we described the Gingerbread Man and wrote them on our missing posters. We are working hard to sound out each word and write the sounds down. Some of us are having a go at writing simple captions like “three candy buttons”.

In maths we have been solving addition problems. Lots of us helped the Little Old Lady from the story to add two groups of gingerbread biscuits together.

In Come and see we are thinking about how to welcome others. We talked about how we welcome each other in school by saying hello, smiling or waving. (Thank you for the baptism photos. If you haven’t sent one already, please could you do so next week. Thank you.)

We finished our week with a nice treat - we baked some gingerbread men biscuits.

They were delicious!

Phonics

Miss Davies is so proud of all of our hard work in phonics. She says we are super stars! We will be carrying on with assessments next week. Miss Davies says we need to keep practising our tricky words over the weekend.

Good News

We were impressed by a very fancy watch which even had a camera on it! What a lovely birthday present. We are definitely getting into the Christmas spirit with another advent calendar show and tell. This time it was a maltesers one, yum yum! We looked at a Paddington lunch box (inspired by the Paddington story we read earlier in the week) and talked about going to see Paddington 2 at the cinema. We found out how to make a build a bear and we were proud of our two gymnasts who achieved a new certificate. Finally, we finished our week we some hilarious jokes. Our favourite was…

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Cow.

Cow who?

Cows go moo, not who!

*Because our Show and Tell sessions are becoming very popular, we have decided to have Show and Tell on Fridays from now on. smiley
