Reception Newsletter - 19th May

Date: 19th May 2017 @ 11:01am

Hello everyone,

On Monday we received a letter from Andy, from Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures. He told us he had dropped Hattie’s information book into a big puddle and ruined it. He asked us for our help. We decided to make a new information book for him. We went to the Cyberlab and did some research about different dinosaurs. We have been busy writing all that information in our information books ready to send to Andy. Some of us wrote; Did you know a Stegosaurus is as heavy as a car? Did you know a Spinosaurus lives in water and on land just like a crocodile!

In maths we have been halving. We began by halving different shapes at the playdough table, making sure that each half was the same. We moved on to halving numbers using the dinosaur figures. To half the dinosaurs we knew we needed two equal groups. Well done everyone!

Some of the children were keen to show eachother how their Mummies cut their sandwiches in half using the chalk! Some Mummies cut their sandwiches into 4 so we talked about quarters.

Show and Tell… as part of our dinosaur topic, three children decided to bring in fossils! We were fascinated and loved looking at them closely. We celebrated a dancing and swimming achievement and had lots of questions about a special crystal and a lovely Christmas decoration.

Phonics and Reading

We have now completed our reading assessments. All of the children’s fabulous hard work is shining through!

Please continue to practise reading and spelling the words sent home before Easter.

Can we continue to have a big push on letter formation!

d, a, c, e, g, b, p, m, n, s, f

(encouraging the children to say the rhyme when they form the letter will help).

Enjoy the weekend!
