Hello everyone,

We have had a good week in Y2 and ended the week by being awarded  "Bucket-fillers of the week"  which makes me immensely proud of all the childrein in Y2 who really are trying very hard to make the right choices.

Come and See

It was the last week of our "Thanksgiving topic" and we enjoyed role playing - taking turns to be the priest or the congregation and saying the responses we use during Mass.

Literacy

We really enjoyed making our own "Hoctopize" hand puppet, taken from our class story "Toys in Space" and went on to write some instructions about how to make a hand  puppet.  Some children went home and produced their own versions of the Hoctopize - we have some very creative and artistic children in Y2.

Numeracy

We have been learning about fractions this week and have started by recognising halves and quarters of shapes and amounts.  We have been using cups and The Maths Table to help us understand how we can work out simple fractions of amounts -  for example the maths table helps us to work out one quarter of an amount and helps us to see the equivalence of 1/2 and 2/4.  We are going to continue with this next week.

Times Tables

It is very important that we all learn our twos, fives and ten times tables so that we can recall these facts quickly and fluently.  Some children have been practising really hard and are able to use these facts to work out calculations and simple word problems.

Next week we have a non-uniform day on Thursday in preparation for the Easter celebrations during the last week of term.

Happy weekend everyone smiley
