This half term, in literacy, we will be concentrating on the David Walliams book, 'Billionaire Boy'. So far, we have read a few chapters of the story and we are really enjoying it. Some of the children in Year 3 have even brought their own copies in from home so they can follow along with the story!

As part of our literacy lesson on Tuesday, we looked at adverbs of place, time and manner. Miss Barnes took us on an adverb hunt in the infant hall, where we had to search high and low to find adverbs.

Once we had found them, we had to sort them into 3 categories: time, place and manner.

We then went back into class to put our learning into action. We read chapter 3 of Billionaire Boy (Who's the Fattiest?) and we re-wrote the opening to the chapter using adverbs. Below, you will find a few photographs of our adverb hunt.

In maths this week, we are consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction by solving problems. On Tuesday, we 'went for a walk' and had to cross a deep lake. Luckily, we had stepping stones to jump on, so Miss Barnes didn't get wet! Our stepping stones had numbers on them and Miss Barnes set us some challenges. They included:

  • Getting from one side of the lake to the other using the stepping stones and making the largest total we could;
  • Repeating this and trying to get the lowest total we could, and
  • Getting from one side to the other and ending up with an even answer.

We certainly rose to the challenge and Miss Barnes was really impressed with our problem solving skills.
