Autumn 2- Week 2

Date: 14th Nov 2023 @ 1:08pm

Hi everyone,

What a wonderful week it has been! We have been very busy,

'Where the Poppies Now Grow', written by the author Hilary Robinson, was this week's focus story. We made some lovely poppies artwork as a sign of respect for the soldiers who have fought and are still fighting for peace.

This week, we also learned about hibernation. At the beginning of the week, we made our own hedgehogs out of salt dough and sunflower seeds! Then, on this week's Wellie Walk, we looked around to find suitable hibernation spots for our hedgehogs. Stay tuned for updates. Please remember to bring gloves, a hat, and a scarf to school because we go outside in all weather conditions—with the exception of heavy downpours. Children, keep practising zipping your coat by yourself 😊

We continued to learn about the sacrament of Baptism in Come and See. We went to church to support our learning, and we behaved very sensibly while we were in God's house. The children thoroughly enjoyed acting out a Baptism with Mrs. McDonell!

In phonics, we learned the letter sounds 'j, v, w, and x', and practised spelling the tricky words 'the, I, and to'. The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even a twig in the mud, for example.)

In maths, we looked at describing a teddy bear's location using positional language, like "in front, behind, and beside" The children have been given a fun maths activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school.  There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

We read the story ‘the Paper Doll’s, as part of Anti-Bullying Week. After reading the story, we discussed the value of showing kindness and behaving in a way that we would like to be treated. The children really enjoyed making paper dolls that stood for friendship.

We continued to practise our Nativity songs as the week came to an end. The children are doing a fantastic job of remembering every word and action. We are so proud of you, children ðŸ˜Š.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
