Autumn Term 2- Week 1

Date: 9th Nov 2023 @ 4:39pm

Welcome back everybody 😊,

Our four days have been jam-packed with activities!

This week we learnt all about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. It was such a blessing that Aayushi's parents came to visit and explained to us their religion and the traditions surrounding their Diwali celebration. Along with making various Rangoli designs out of coloured powder, we also enjoyed making salt dough Diya lamps.

Bonfire Night was another topic we discussed. After exchanging stories about our own bonfire night experiences, we made some amazing glittery works of artwork. Furthermore, we also had fun making delicious chocolate sparklers. It became clear to us that melting the chocolate was necessary for the sprinkles to stick to each breadstick.

In phonics this week, we revised all the letter sounds we have learnt so far! We also continued to revise the tricky words, ‘the’, ‘I’, ‘no’ and ‘go’. The children are really enjoying completing various phonics challenges in the classroom.  We will start learning the Level 3 sounds the following week. Watch this space!

We continued to explore our understanding of the composition of the numerals 1, 2, 3 in maths by using five frames to show the different ways that they can be made. We also looked at 2D shapes, triangles and circles. The children enjoyed going on a shape hunt and looking around the school for these shapes. Using language like "corners, sides, and round," we were able to recognise shapes and describe their properties.

In Come and See, we have been learning about the Sacrament of Baptism. When we visit Church on Monday (13.11.23), we cannot wait to recognise the many symbols, like the Easter candle and font, that we have been identifying in our RE lessons.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team

Reception Phonic and Reading Meeting

On Tuesday, 14th November, from 9.15am to 10.00am, we will be holding a Reception Phonic and Reading workshop. The workshop will give you a clearer understanding of how we teach phonics and reading in Reception and will hopefully provide you with the ‘know how’ to help you to support your child at home.

The workshop will be held in the Reception classroom, and the children will be taught elsewhere whilst the workshop is being delivered. Once the workshop is finished, the children will be brought back into class to share a story with you before you leave. It would be lovely if you could bring in their favourite story book to share with them. Grandparents are welcome to attend in your place if you are unable to attend. Please sign in at the school office.

Following the workshop, all materials shared during the session will be accessible on the Reception class page.

We look forward to seeing you there!
