Merry Christmas and thank you!

Date: 22nd Dec 2023 @ 1:21pm

Firstly, on behalf of myself and Mrs Hankin, I would just like to say a huge thank you to the Year 6 parents and children for their extremely kind, generous gifts and cards. You have been so thoughtful and your generosity has really touched us- thank you so much.

Before we finish our first full term in Year 6 (yikes!), here is a little update as to what we have been up to.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Come and See - we have been looking at 'Expectations' and how these may differ from person to person. We completed an Advent wreath, where we shared our hopes for the coming months, as well as discussing how we can bring joy to those around us this Christmas. We asked our Lord for peace and harmony in the world.

Science - for the past 3 weeks, we have planned, carried out and evaluated our own science investigations. We generated our own questions to do with how exercise impacts our heart rate, and we completed an investigation, which produced some very interesting results. I was particularly proud of the way the children talked about 'unusual results', or 'anomalies', and how the children could explain these results scientifically.

Literacy - our writing this half term has been focussed on 'The Wolves in the Walls' by Neil Gaiman. We had a crack at writing our own story in the style of the author- the final pieces are brilliant! Some titles the children came up with include 'Capybaras in the Cupboard', 'Snakes in the Sink', 'Lions in the Loft' and many others.

Computing - in computing lessons, we have been looking at spreadsheets and how they can be used for real-life application. One activity we completed was to work out ticket prices from 5 different ticket companies. We used formulae to make it easier and we looked at how booking fees and discounts can alter the prices we pay.

This is just a brief snapshot of what we've been up to. We are nearing the end of our first topic in Year 6- Identity- and we will be starting our new topic, which is called Disasters, in the new year.

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your kindness and generosity.

Have a very merry Christmas and we wish you a happy and healthy 2024.

See you next year!
