Good Morning Year 4,

I hope you have all had a lovely and relaxing break over half term and are feeling ready to start your home learning again today.

Today is National Best Friends Day. Why don’t you spend some time thinking about your best friends, why are they your friends? What qualities do you admire in them that make you want to be friends with them? If you have a way to contact them you could send them a message telling them why you are thankful to them for being your friend. I have attached some friendship themed activities to this blog for you to have a look at.

BBC Bitesize are continuing to put daily lessons online. Today’s maths lesson is all about tenths. Can you remember when we looked at tenths in class? Tenths are created when one whole is split equally into ten different parts. They can be written as fractions or decimals. 1/10 is equal to 0.1. Have a look at the online lesson and then if you would like extra practice I have attached an activity sheet to this blog. I have also attached an information sheet all about decimals which should help you.

I have found a book that I think lots of you will enjoy. It is called Roman Rescue.

Tilda and Charlie Hacker know that time travel isn’t possible. So, when they discover a secret room in their new house containing the journals of the mysterious Professor Howe, they can’t believe their eyes. When they are catapulted back into a time of Roman occupation, the history-hopping Hackers find themselves in unfamiliar and dangerous territory. And when Tilda is forced to play a game of life and death with the leader of all Rome, Charlie must find a way to escape an impenetrable fortress and rescue his sister.

I have attached an online version of the book to this blog for you to read over this half term. I would suggest that you try to read two chapters a week. I will set some work linked to this book each week. Today, as the BBC Bitesize English lesson is revising using inverted commas, I have attached an activity linked to punctuating speech for you to have a go at. You are all experts at this by now as we have looked at using inverted commas in class and BBC Bitesize had a lesson on the 30th April too!

The final lesson today is all about how and why the Romans invaded Britain. This is something that you will already know lots about, but you may find out some more interesting facts.

Some final reminders as it is the first day back to home schooling after the holiday.

  • It is really important that you read every day. You could read Roman Rescue, a story from Serial Mash or a book of your own. It is also important to answer questions based on the story you are reading.
  • It is also important to practice your times tables every day. You have all been making really good progress on Times Tables Rock Stars so keep this up and keep improving your scores!
  • Find ways to exercise, you could do Joe Wick’s PE lessons, an online dance class or just spend time in the garden being active.
  • Have fun while you are learning!

Finally for today, I have been sent some amazing river projects. I have attached them to the blog so you can all have a look at them.

If you complete any activities that you would like to share with me you can email school at stmaryrcbp@sthelens.org.uk so that I can see your amazing work.

Have a lovely day and I will talk to you tomorrow,

Miss Gradwell
