Spring 2- Week 2

Date: 29th Feb 2024 @ 8:24am

Hi everyone,

What another busy week in Reception!

This week's focus story was Jasper's Beanstalk, written by the author Nick Butterworth. We went through the story in great detail and talked about how growing plants and flowers requires patience. We were then inspired to plant our own beans after reading the story. After talking about what plants need to survive, we made a promise to help our own plants grow. Additionally, we wrote a set of instructions for planting beans.

In phonics, the children have continued to have fun participating in various activities to help them consolidate their phonic knowledge.  Please try to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds with your children at home. This revision will boost their confidence while also improving their phonic skills.

Parents/Carers, the children have been given purple handwriting books to practise letter formation at home. Each week, we will ask the children to practise forming various letters. On Fridays, handwriting books are sent home. We kindly ask that they be brought back to school every Wednesday. Thank you.

In maths, we explored length and height. Furthermore, we have begun delving into the number 9. Watch this space!

The fairytale 'Jack and the Beanstalk' was the featured story in Drawing Club this week. We had a great time reading the story and adding new words to our vocabulary, such as 'booming,' 'glittering,' and 'gigantic'. See some of our amazing works of art below.

We wish you a happy and restful weekend,

The Reception Team
