Summer Term 1- Week One

Date: 21st Apr 2023 @ 11:30am

Hi everyone,

What a busy first week of the Summer Term!

We read Julia Donaldson's 'What the Ladybird Heard' this week. We talked about other Julia Donaldson stories we'd read, such as ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. The children had a great time pretending to be the Ladybird and writing fantastic sentences about what she was thinking when he overheard Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len plotting to steal the fine prize cow!! We also had a lot of fundrawing and following our own maps of the outdoor area, and making yummy ladybird biscuits. Furthermore, we talked about which animals live on farms and which do not.

In phonics, we have been revising the trigraph sounds 'air, igh, ure, and ear', and all the tricky words we have learnt so far. We have also focused on letter formation, ensuring that our letters are correctly formed and facing the correct way. The children are almost ready to progress to the Level 4 stage of learning. We are very proud of how hard they work in their phonics lessons,  they are superstars! Please try to continue to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds with your children at home. This revision will boost their confidence while also improving their phonic skills

We have been exploring teen numbers in maths. We looked at a number line up to 20 and created our own Teen Numicon Monsters! The children have been given a home learning activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning

During Wellie Walk, we had a lot of fun participating in a Scavenger Hunt. We had to work in groups to find objects of various colours in the area around us. Then we had to draw what we found in the correct box and try to write the name of the object. We had lots of fun!

Finally, our Come and See lesson brought the week to a close. We spent some time reflecting on our Easter break and have now started our new topic, ‘Good News’.  We discussed how everyone has good news to share and how important it is to listen to each other's good news. The children enjoyed sitting in a circle and sharing their good news with one another.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team :)
