Summer Term 1- Week Three

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 12:58pm

Hi everyone,

What another busy week in Reception! 'Wangari's Tree of Peace' was our focus story this week. We continued to talk about endangered species and how we can protect the environment. We understand that causing environmental damage is not good for the endangered species. As a result, the children created posters and shared their ideas on how we can help prevent species from becoming endangered.

This week was also the King's Coronation. We had a great time celebrating this special occasion by reading the story 'King Charles III's Colourful Coronation,' writing letters to our new King, creating beautiful Coronation artwork, and holding our own King Horse race.  We particularly enjoyed our Coronation lunch.

In phonics, we continued reviewing previously taught sounds and had fun saying some of their letter names. In addition, we practised writing captions and sentences. The children have been working hard to memorise all of the tricky Level 3 words. Please try to continue to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds with your children at home. This revision will boost their confidence while also improving their phonic skills.

In maths, we focused on addition. We practised solving addition problems using a number line. We understand that we must look at the number sentence carefully. The first number tells us where to start on the number line, and the second number in the equation tells us how many jumps we need to make. To celebrate the King's Coronation, the children have been given a fun, home learning baking activity to do with their grown-ups. Baking fosters many skills, including communication and language, fine motor and teamwork, and many maths skills, such as reasoning, counting, and the ability to weigh and measure. Please upload any photographs you take to Evidence Me :).

This week’s Wellie Walk was a lot of fun! Outside, pictures of the Royal Coronation were hung everywhere. We had to work in pairs, look closely, and then cross a picture off the list when we found it. Teamwork makes the dream work. The children had so much fun on the scavenger hunt that they asked if they could do it again! Therefore, we have sent home a different Scavenger Hunt that you can do for fun over the weekend to celebrate the Coronation. Let us know how you get on!

In Come and See, we continued talking about Pentecost. We know it is a celebration of Jesus' Good News. The Holy Spirit was sent as promised by Jesus. We marked the occasion by making streamers and dancing to the song 'The Holy Spirit fills me up.'

We wish you a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend,

The Reception Team
