Summer Term 1- Week Two

Date: 28th Apr 2023 @ 8:11am

We wish you a relaxing and long weekend.Hi everyone,

What another busy week we have had. This week, we read the story ‘Rainforest Explorers’. We discussed what a rainforest is, how it looks, and what animals we might find there. This prompted us to discuss endangered animals. We looked closely at orangutans and how their way of life is under threat. We also discussed other endangered species, such as sea turtles, and how their habitat is also threatening their survival. The children compared a clean ocean to a polluted ocean to gain a better understanding of how sea creatures’ habitats are changing. We agreed that if we ever had a beach picnic, we would always put our litter in a bin. We also finished the week by researching jungle animals and creating fact files about them.

The Road Safety team came by this week. Elaine taught us how to stay safe in a moving vehicle and how to cross a pedestrain crossing safely. We understand that when crossing a pedestrian crossing, we must stop, look, listen, and think, and always wait until it is safe to cross. The children confidently said that you must wait until you see the "green man traffic light."  Check out this video about road safety: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI4Ye4EZo00. The song is extremely catchy.

We continued to review previously taught sounds in phonics and practised saying their letter names. We also concentrated on letter formation. Furthermore, the children had fun reading sentneces containing the tricky words ‘we’ and ‘they’. Please try to continue to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds with your children at home. This revision will boost their confidence while also improving their phonic skills

This week in maths, we continued to look at teen numbers. We had a lot of fun ordering these numbers and filling in missing numbers on a number line up to 20. The children have been given a home learning activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

On this week's Wellie Walk, we had a lot of fun spotting shapes in the clouds. Some children saw shapes in the sky that resembled dinosaurs! Fun was had by all.

During Come and See, we looked at the Pentecost story.  We talked about how his friends felt lonely without Jesus but were relieved when Jesus fulfilled his promise to send a new friend, the Holy Spirit. We then did some fantastic acting outside in which we had to use facial expressions and actions to show how Jesus' friends' feelings changed throughout the story.

We wish you a relaxing and long weekend,
