Week Four in Reception

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 3:52pm

Another exciting week in Reception. This week, we read the story ‘We all Belong’ by Natalie Goss.  We explored what makes each of us special and unique. We especially enjoyed painting self-portraits. The children looked at their faces in mirrors before deciding which colours of paint they needed for their self-portrait. The children’s artwork was amazing and has been displayed around the classroom.  Well done everybody.

This week, we began our reading journey and learnt the sounds s, a, t, p.  We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)

We have also started our Come and See programme.  We talked about the importance of our names to identify each of us.

In Maths we have worked on using language to describe and compare height taller/shorter/tallest/shortest.

We are continuing to enjoy Wellie Walk Wednesday. This week, we talked about our five senses and then used them to explore the school surroundings. Some children talked about how twigs can feel rough or sometimes even smooth, and that we can hear loud and quiet noises when we are outside.

You should have received an email from the Evidence Me app to invite you to join.  With Parent Share in Evidence Me you will be able to see what your child has been learning and the new skills they are developing. You can also upload things that your child has done outside of school that you think we would like to see. Parents and carers are given their own log-in using their email – you should have received an email link and using this you can set your own password. If you do not currently have access please inform school and we can resend the email link. Staff are given a secure log-in and they can then upload observations, plus see any observations parents and carers have added. Over the next couple of weeks you will begin to see observations of your child. We will be posting the weekly observations each Friday. Your child will have at least one observation per fortnight - if you do not receive an observation on one week, there will be one posted the following week. Our first observation post will be Friday 7th October.

We would love to hear from you - if your child has any WOW moments at home, please share it with us on the app!

Examples:

Learning to ride a bike or zipping up their coat for the first time

Talking knowledgably about one of their interests or a recent experience

Showing confidence and resilience when trying something new (joining a new club) or overcoming a challenge

Anything that made them (or yourselves) really proud!

Have a lovely weekend
