Week Six in Reception :)

Hi everyone,

We have had another wonderful week in Reception!

The Great Big Book of Families by Mary Hoffman was this week's focus story and discussed our own special families. 

This week, we have learned the letter sounds h, b, f and l. We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)  We have also been learning the tricky words, “the’, ‘I’, ‘no’, ‘go’ and ‘the’. The children are working so hard to develop their reading skills. We are super proud of them!

In maths, we explore different representations of 1, 2 and 3.  We have been introduced to the mathematical term ‘subitising’. We worked hard to look at small groups of objects and recognise how many there are without having to count them. The children have been given a fun maths activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school.  There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

We finished the week with our Harvest Festival performance. I'm sure you'll agree, grown-ups, that the children were amazing! They sang and danced their hearts out. They also looked fabulous in their scarecrow costumes as well! Lastly, we would like to thank the grown-ups for joining us for the morning! We had a great time making crafts with you and hope you enjoyed tasting our homemade soup. Check out some lovely photographs below!
