Week Three in Reception!

Date: 27th Sep 2023 @ 4:47pm

Hi everyone,

Another exciting week in Reception. This past week, we finished reading "We all Belong" by Natalie Goss. We looked into what makes each of us unique and special. Self-portraits were something we really enjoyed painting.  The children looked at their faces in mirrors before deciding which colours of paint they needed for their self-portrait!

This week, we have been working extremely hard to learn the sounds 'i, n, m, and d'. We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even a twig in the mud, for example.)

We compared object quantities in maths. When comparing the quantities of different objects, we used language, such as  'greater than,' 'less than,' or 'the same'. We compared numbers aswell.

The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves while learning to balance bike. The listening skills and confidence of the children really impressed the Bikeability instructors. Well done, you are superstars!

The Wellie Walk this week required a lot of patience from us. On Wednesday, when we looked at the forecast, it was raining heavily. We were so grateful for the dry weather on Friday. We discussed the five senses before using them to explore the school's surroundings on our walk.

We started our RE Come and See programme this week as well. We talked about the importance of our names to identify each of us.

On Friday, in order to support the incredible work that Macmillan nurses do, Reception held their own coffee morning. We all indulged in a tasty treat! We thank you for your donations.

Evidence Me

We have shared our first observations today via Evidence Me. Please remember, we would love for you to share your child's learning with us too. Your child will have at least one observation per fortnight - if you did not receive an observation this week, there will be one posted the following week.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
